Modernfold Expands Production Facilities and Reduces Lead Times

Modernfold, Inc., the industry-leader in operable and glass wall systems, officially opened a third building at their production site in Dyersville, Iowa on March 22, 2024.  The expanded factory footprint will increase production capacity of popular product lines by 30 percent.

“Modernfold has a 100-year history of providing the highest quality operable walls in the market, and we are committed to getting them in the hands of our valued design professionals, general contracts, and owners as seamlessly and swiftly as possible,” said Bryan Welch, Managing Director of Modernfold.

The expansion includes a newly constructed production line focused on manufacturing Acousti-Seal® Encore® and Legacy®.  Expanding its capabilities for these highly sought-after offerings allows Modernfold to be more nimble and support quick-turn construction.  “We are now producing our highest-demand products at the highest production volume in Modernfold’s history,” added Jesse Blad, Operations Director.

Recognized around the world for production of large panels for major projects and convention centers, Modernfold’s customer base also requires greater support of small projects occurring in local communities – schools, churches, etc. The factory expansion now allows Modernfold to run production for both tall and short projects simultaneously shortening lead time across the board.

The Manufacturing Engineers at Modernfold were challenged to come up with a way to produce more panels with minimal disruption to current production processes.  Several options were explored but expansion was the clear winner.  “Once we had the new building, the question was how fast could we go from empty building to producing panels.  We set an aggressive schedule to be complete by April 1, and thanks to all the hard work and time put in by the Maintenance team, we will be starting production on the new line one week earlier than originally planned,” said Steve Helbing, Manufacturing Engineer Manager.
