From Fixed to Flexible: The Transformation of Wyndham Guayaquil

Posted on Oct 06, 2026

When Wyndham Guayaquil set out to renovate its ballroom facilities, the objective extended beyond replacing aging operable partitions. The hotel wanted a long-term solution that would improve acoustic performance, simplify daily operation, and provide the flexibility to host multiple events simultaneously—all while meeting an aggressive renovation schedule.

Having worked with Wyndham on previous hospitality projects, Modernfold distributor Studio Urbana was brought in as a trusted partner   to help guide the renovation from concept through installation.

Listening First, Then Designing the Right Solution

An acoustic study the hotel had commissioned established a minimum requirement of STC 52, and early conversations with the   architect, hotel management, engineers, and acoustical consultants helped define the project's broader goals. Studio Urbana   recommended Modernfold’s Acousti-Seal Legacy® single panel operable partitions equipped with automatic bottom seals.

The recommendation delivered more than higher acoustic performance. The automatic seals were an upgraded feature from the prior system and would reduce setup time for hotel staff and improve the day-to-day experience of managing the hotel's event spaces.

As the project evolved, the scope expanded from replacing two existing partitions to creating three additional operable walls in a space that previously as fixed walls. This redesign would give Wyndham significantly greater flexibility to divide and reconfigure its ballrooms.

A Collaborative Approach from Start to Finish

Successful execution required close coordination well beyond the partition installation itself. The Studio Urbana team verified existing structural steel, evaluated ceiling conditions to prevent flanking sound transmission, collaborated with acoustical specialists to preserve performance, and worked alongside hotel engineers throughout the renovation.

“For projects like these, the experience, expertise, and proven track record of a brand like Modernfold provide invaluable support,” said Camilo Cornejo, President of Studio Urbana.

Unexpected challenges arose including international shipping complexities and a compressed construction schedule.  Studio Urbana understood that adherence to the project timeline was especially critical given the previously scheduled events soon-to-occur in the ballroom space. Throughout the renovation, Studio Urbana maintained constant communication with the hotel, coordinating with multiple trades to ensure the ballroom spaces were ready on time.

Service That Continues Beyond Installation

The partnership did not end at project completion. Studio Urbana provided hands-on training for hotel staff to ensure proper operation of the new system and established an annual maintenance program to help maximize long-term performance. For major projects, the company also includes a complimentary first-year maintenance visit, reinforcing its commitment to long-term customer success.

“We are very pleased with the panels, the response times, and with the after-sales service,” said Dolores Vela, General Manager of Wyndham Guayaquil.

Results

Today, Wyndham Guayaquil benefits from flexible event spaces that can host simultaneous functions with confidence, supported by reliable STC 52 acoustic separation and easier day-to-day operation.

Just as important, the project reinforced a trusted relationship built on responsiveness, technical expertise, and a commitment to solving problems together. That collaborative approach has already led to additional Wyndham hotel projects in Ecuador and continues to strengthen Studio Urbana's reputation as a valued partner for hospitality renovations.
