University of Tennessee Improve Fans’ Courtside Club Experience

The University of Tennessee announced a number of upgrades to the Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center, home to the Volunteers’ basketball and volleyball games as well as national touring acts. Among the upgrades included the newly unveiled Harper Auto Square Courtside Club and its Ray Mears Room.  The Club provides fans with a VIP-experience offering pre-game refreshments and half time fun.

Modernfold distributor, William S. Trimble Company, partnered with architectural firm Studio Four Design and general contractor Merit Construction to create an exciting space to host and entertain visiting groups, recruits, alumni, and more, The Ray Mears Room, named after the famous Tennessee basketball coach, was reenvisioned to have a contemporary look infused with Tennessee pride.

After consulting with Studio Four, William S. Trimble quickly understood that the space would be best served with an operable wall that could foster both space flexibility to meet the daily-evolving needs and sound control to address the privacy concerns of its guests.  A Modernfold Acousti-Clear® glass, operable wall with 45 STC was ultimately specified to exceed these goals.  The glass operable wall system consisted of paired panels for end user ease, automatic seals for sound control, and a black powder coat RAL satin finish to match the design aesthetic.

Invested in client service, William S. Trimble advised Studio Four on the number of panels within the wall to best serve their space and budget.  They were also able to counsel Merit Construction on track header specifics to best accommodate the tall ceilings.

Reception of the newly renovated space has fans, coaches, and the athletic department cheering.
